Workshops

In 2003 the Western Australian Centre for Evidence Based Nursing and Midwifery was supported by the Health Department of WA to provide evidence based practice workshops in rural, regional and metropolitan health services in Western Australia. The workshops were designed to introduce the concepts of evidence based practice and to produce a 'Best Evidence Protocol' on a topic relevant to the health service.

The workshop program included the following sessions:

  • introduction to evidence based practice
  • finding and using evidence to direct practice
  • developing evidence based guidelines for an aspect of nursing care selected by the host service
  • producing evidence based guidelines
  • implementing best practice in the health service setting
  • overview of the Joanna Briggs Institute for Evidence Based Nursing and Midwifery and the Western Australian Centre for Evidence Based Nursing and Midwifery
  • evaluation and conclusion.
